Competition: 1330-1730

Address, site entry & parking
Army Reserve Centre, St John’s Road, Tunbridge Wells (TN4 9UU).
There is a security gate, so one of the team will let you in; parking is available on site. The competition will take place in the building to the right as you enter the site – the door is at the front (facing the road).

How to enter
Please email your name, age, and BFA membership type and number to rtwfencingclub@gmail.com, and pay the fee (see below) to Lloyds account 30-90-90 37277468.

Entry fee
The entry fee is £10 per person. If you need to hire some or all fencing gear, the cost will be £2.50.

Clothing & footwear
Please ensure that fencers wear sports shoes and either long sports socks or skins or some other sporty garment that fully covers the lower leg.

Outline of the day
Upon arrival at or before 9am, fencers will be ‘checked in – that is, registered, entry fees paid for and their British Fencing membership number noted down (unless emailed in advance), then kitted out in their fencing gear and offered the chance to warm-up.

Initially, all fencers will participate in a preliminary round of 5-6 bouts, each of which will be to 5 points or three minutes (whichever happens first). Fencers will then be split into two age groups – 13-14 and 15-18 – and be seeded into the knockout rounds based upon the preliminary results, wherein the target score is 15 points and the bout duration 3 x 3-minute periods. Note that the new passivity rules will be applied.

The earliest fencers might be finished is approximately 4pm, but those advancing to the later stages of the competition won’t be finished until approximately 5.30pm; the individual medal presentation will follow the conclusion of the fencing.

Spectating
Parents and family are welcome to stay and watch the action – chairs will be placed round the edge of the hall.

Food
There is no food available on site, but there’s a cafe in the sports centre next door, and a Tesco Express and a Costa 10 minutes away on foot. For fencers, a packed lunch and plenty of snacks and drinks is the best option. Please note that we will not have access to the kitchen on the day.
