Scottish Ensemble to experiment with dual-venue concerts

They’ve performed in abandoned Glasgow offices, danced to Bach, run music together like an iPod on shuffle, and plenty more besides. “Redefining the string orchestra” is the Scottish Ensemble’s motto, and the group more than meets any expectations that phrase raises with its experimental, boundary-pushing approaches to making music. That questing tradition continues in the opening concerts of the Ensemble’s 50th anniversary season. Titled Baroque: Take Two, they comprise concerts showcasing Vivaldi, Corelli and others that begin in one venue but finish in another, with the audience strolling between them during the interval. In Edinburgh, it’s the Signet Library and St Giles Cathedral; in Glasgow, it’s the Glasgow Art Club and Renfield St Stephens Centre; and there are similar set-ups in Inverness, Perth and London. You even get to choose the order in which you experience the two parts.
