Art review: The Pittenweem Arts Festival

Below its primary invocation of “Success to The Herring Fishers,” the second motto on Pittenweem’s town crest reads, “By Hammer and Hand All Arts Do Stand.” The variety of work and disciplines on show at Pittenweem Arts Festival, whose 38th edition is currently under way, certainly has a fair stab at encompassing “all” in the visual arts field, ranging this time from the customary plethora of painted seascapes and harbour scenes to crocheted mini-sculptures inspired by mathematical theory; from community craft projects and amateur photography to a sequence of site-specific digital text and video pieces, accessed via smartphone.
