When I pop my clogs and shuffle off this mortal coil, a small piece of my being will be forever devoted to a place which makes my heart soar, Northumberland. I have fond memories of childhood holidays, and more recently revisiting with my own family. I’m not alone in my thinking as this region won gold in the Best UK Holiday County/Destination at the prestigious 2018 British Travel Awards. It was competing against nine other great places including the big hitters of Cornwall, the Peak District, Cumbria & The Lakes and even our very own Scottish Highlands. Its success was due in part to a highly effective social media campaign #NorthumberlandSpirit.
