Scotland’s peat bog’s have revealed some fascinating artefacts over the years with the acidic soil offering the perfect conditions to preserve everything from human bodies to prehistoric talismans, sometimes for thousands of years.Here, Susan Webster of Scottish Natural Heritage and Dr Carol Christiansen, of Shetland Museum, look at the mysterious case of the Gunnister Man, whose body was discovered in a peat bog in Shetland almost 70 years ago.
