2018: The Year in Books

0 23
Reviewers rarely have the time, and often not the inclination, to return even to books they have praised and read them again, but two novels that pleased me enough this year to read them a second time are Michael Ondaatje’s Warlight and AN Wilson’s Aftershocks. Warlight is an atmospheric mystery, set in war-damaged London crying out to be made into a black-and-white movie. Aftershocks contrives to be both a comedy and a serious examination of religious faith in the wake of natural disaster. Both, in very different styles, are beautifully written.
