Film review: Edinburgh International Film Festival
If the 71st Edinburgh International Film Festival got off to a great start last week with God’s Own Country, Francis Lee’s Michael Powell award-winner turned out to be the exception rather than the rule when it came to the rest of the programme. A handful of low-key gems aside, there’s been a lot of filler over the last week or so, and a few too many cinematic clunkers of the sort that makes EIFF seem increasingly like a repository for the rubbish movies no one else wants.
