0 1

The best neoprene wellies are a fantastic option for wearing on the yard, trekking to the fields or walking the dog if you’re not wedded to the more traditional rubber style of the best wellington boots. Neoprene is waterproof and highly insulating, which makes them perfect for wearing throughout the winter. Plus, with grippy soles and technical footbeds, you’ll be comfortable in these neoprene wellies all day.

The wellies featured in this guide have a neoprene shaft, but we’ve also written a guide to the best thermal wellington boots – most of which have a neoprene lining, and so are ideal if you prefer the traditional rubber welly style.

These wellies are the redesigned iconic Muck Boot Chore for women, with the addition of a fully waterproof adjustable gusset at the back that extends up to 7cm for extra room around the calf and a customised fit. The 5mm neoprene adds warmth, comfort and flexibility to the fit. They also feature a breathable mesh lining to help keep you cool on warmer days.

If you feel the cold and need sturdy boots these would be a great choice. My calves measure 38cm at the widest part and I struggle to find wellies to fit when they have little to no adjustment on the leg. I tested these wellies and found them to provide grip in all terrains. My feet stayed warm even with normal socks. I was impressed that the adjustable back gusset allowed for a better fit around my legs even when wearing waterproof layers.

Are neoprene wellies too warm?

No, the neoprene material acts as a “neutral medium” between inside and outside temperatures. Naturally lightweight and comfortable, the material helps to keep the foot and leg warm and protected in cold and wet conditions.

Why are neoprene wellies good?

Neoprene welly boots are durable and can withstand extreme conditions. They’re also insulating, which is great if you struggle to keep your feet warm in cold weather. The stretchiness in neoprene allows for the boots to fit snug round your legs with some give so you don’t feel restricted.

Should I size up in wellies?

You want to make sure your boots fit snugly without being too tight. You should buy your normal shoe size. Ensure you check the manufacturers sizing charts before purchasing if you are unsure and, if possible, try them on with the socks you would normally wear with them.
