Todd Smart purchases half brother to Miss Vista

Canberra trainer Todd Smart is “excited” with his purchase at yesterday’s Inglis 2yo ready to run sale at Warwick Farm.

Smart paid $62,500 for a Whittington colt out of Gee Trump who left the spectacularly marked Victorian flyer Miss Vista and Joe Cleary’s handy galloper Up Trumpz.

Smart said the un-named colt is strong, athletic, and composed and from a good family.

“We had our eye on a number at the sale, but these were whittled down after seeing them on the day.

“It’s important not only to see them gallop, but to see how they cope with the sales environment generally.

“He galloper boldly in the two horse breeze up and the horse he beat sold for $180,000.

“He really stood out to me and will run early.

“We will give him a let up for 4-6 weeks and at this stage will target him for some serious races in the autumn. I think he’s potentially very good.”

Smart said the colt will be syndicated and a few shares remain available.

Smart has moved into new stabling complex at Canberra which includes a walker, and has big open boxes and yards.

“I have currently 10 in work with room now for more, and have some nice younger horses coming through.

“I have a good opinion of Tobermory who was spelled after delivering the maiden win at Gundagai. He will be back in work on Saturday.”

Smart’s High Chaparral mare High Street will line up in Friday’s TAB Federal Maiden at Canberra off a solid debut at the same venue.

“She will race over further next preparation, but she’s pleasing and I expect her to run a top race.”
