Video: Tottenham's Will Lankshear ends goal drought with diving header for Oxford United

0 8

Tottenham Hotspur’s on-loan forward Will Lankshear finally got back on the scoresheet for Oxford United after a six-game goal drought.

Tottenham Hotspur will be hoping Will Lankshear can continue to build momentum this term, as the young forward looks to make his loan spell with Oxford United count.

Last season’s six-month stint with West Bromwich Albion did not exactly go to plan for the Spurs striker, who failed to register a single goal in his 11 appearances for the Championship side.

This campaign, however, has already offered far more promise for the 20-year-old, who has been heavily involved for the O’s, and in his latest outing, he made his mark once again with a crucial goal

Tottenham’s Will Lankshear scores in Oxford United win over Sheffield Wednesday

In Oxford United’s latest League fixture against Sheffield Wednesday, Will Lankshear opened the scoring for Gary Rowett’s side, who went on to claim a 2-1 victory.

It was Lankshear’s fourth goal of the season from 10 starts, and it brought an end to a six-game barren run in front of goal.

When the ball was recycled back to Cameron Brannagan in a central position after a set-piece, the Oxford midfielder clipped a teasing ball into the box that would have evaded everyone if not for Lankshear’s diving header at the back post.

Interestingly, the header also ended an unusual pattern for the youngster, as he had never previously been on the winning side in matches where he had found the back of the net.

Spurs will be happy with their young striker

The Tottenham forward featured for 76 minutes before being substituted, earning a solid 7.8 FotMob rating for his display.

It was a confident showing from Lankshear, who registered three shots, created one chance, completed seven of his 11 passes, and saw two of his efforts test the goalkeeper.

He also showed intent to contribute in the build-up phase, registering 26 touches overall, including two inside the opposition box, while completing two passes into the final third.
