'Cat Olympics' Diving Video Goes Massively Viral

0 6

AI is obviously a very controversial topic, but everyone probably agrees it's got the cat videos nailed down.

A video being dubbed as the "cat Olympics" or "kitty Olympics" has gone massively viral. Obviously, it's not real.

It shows a series of cats, from different breeds, walking down a diving board before executing perfect dives into a pool.

Although fake, it almost looks realistic because they mimic the mannerisms of elite Olympic divers, and that's what makes it so funny.

The creator, Pablo Prompt, wrote on X on June 21, "I just checked Twitter a while after waking up and saw that the Michi Olympics post has reached everywhere — and on Instagram it’s going to hit 200 million views today… this is insane."

"The physics are insane. I have to say that not every video came out perfect on the first try, but I still got great results really," he wrote on X. He says on his X page that he is from Spain and is a psychologist who "stumbled on artificial intelligence."

"These flips. These dives. These dramatic stares. But here’s the twist… none of it is real. It’s all AI-generated. Cat videos built the internet — now AI is reinventing them," wrote an admirer.

"What can an AI do when used well. Cat Olympics Michi Olympiads," wrote another.

Other similar AI videos show grandpas diving and a cat figure skating and playing different sports.

How was the kitty Olympics video created? "It's a hugely viral video produced using Chinese AI video developer MiniMax's Hailuo 02 model," wrote Tech Radar.

"The millions of people watching the video of cats diving may not be real, but it's real enough to elbow its way into the competition for AI video dominance, alongside Google Veo 3 and OpenAI's Sora, among many others."
