Dane Scarlett scores diving header for England as he fights for Spurs future
Dane Scarlett netted in impressive fashion for England’s Under-21s in their 1-1 draw with Netherlands on Monday night.
Dane Scarlett has found his goalscoring boots
Dane Scarlett struggled to make the expected impact during his last two loan spells at Portsmouth and Ipswich, and the striker had a difficult start to his spell at Oxford United this season.
However, he has come into form of late, having now found the back of the net three times in the Championship for Des Buckingham’s side.
Scarlett is also impressing in England colours, having netted twice for England’s Elite League Squad as they overcame Romania 2-0 in Stockport back in September, and he has now netted his second goal for England’s Under-21s.
Scarlett’s impressive finish for the Young Lions
Scarlett got off the mark in impressive fashion in what was just his third appearance for England’s Under-21s in their clash against the Netherlands at Almere.
Aston Villa’s Samuel Iling-Junior, who is currently on loan at Bologna, produced an exquisite cross from the left, and the Tottenham man met it with a diving header to put England 1-0 up early in the game.
Ben Futcher’s men could not see out the win as Thom van Bergen came off the bench to net a late equaliser for the Dutch.
Scarlett needs to build on this momentum
Scarlett is now starting to show signs of living up to the promise he has always had. The youngster has fallen down the pecking order at Spurs, with the likes of Will Lankshear and Alejo Veliz now closer to the first-team.
The 20-year-old would thus have to continue banging in the goals at club and international level to catch the eye of Ange Postecoglou and the decision-makers at Spurs.
