Kyle Mayers Picks Up Brilliant Diving Catch To Dismiss Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore Teammate In CPL T20 2024 Match I WATCH Video
West Indies all-rounder Kyle Mayers put on a brilliant show for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 2024 match against the St Lucia Kings in Basseterre on Sunday night. Mayers first smashed 92 off 62 balls with 7 sixes and 6 fours and then pulled off a brilliant catch to dismiss St Lucia Kings skipper Faf du Plessis for just 2.
Du Plessis, who is captain of Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL), skied South African pacer Anrich Nortje towards mid-wicket but Mayers pulled off a brilliant running catch over his shoulder to send the former South Africa captain packing. The Kings were in early trouble, slipping to 24 for 4 in the 4th over, chasing 202 to win but brilliant half-centuries by Sri Lanka’s Bhanuka Rajapaksa (68 n.o., 35 balls, 4×6, 6×4) and New Zealand’s Tim Seifert (64, 27 balls, 6×6, 4×4) along with David Weise’s 20-ball 34 helped them pull off the chase with more than 2 overs to spare and with five wickets in hand.

Earlier, a CPL record second-wicket partnership of 199 runs between Kyle Mayers and Evin Lewis was not enough to see St Kitts & Nevis Patriots to victory in the fifth match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) T20 2024 in Basseterre. An unbeaten century for Lewis off 54 balls and 92 from Mayers off 62 deliveries lit up the evening, with boundaries raining down on all corners of the ground, the Patriots pair hitting a combined 16 sixes and 13 fours to set a challenging target of 201/3.
The game looked all but gone for the Kings early in their response. At 24/4 inside four overs with opener and captain Faf du Plessis pocketed by countryman Anrich Nortje for 2 and Mayers doing early damage with the ball in hand to get rid of Johnson Charles and Ackeem Auguste.
A remarkable passage of play followed, Tim Seifert was dropped twice on his way to scoring 64 off 27 balls before Bhanuka Rajapaska (68 n.o. off 35) and David Wiese (34 n.o. off 20) beat the fielders and cleared the ropes with aplomb to knock off the runs with relative ease.
The rain fell at Warner Park but it wasn’t heavy or sustained enough to come to Patriots rescue, all of their bowlers shipped heavy runs apart from Nortje who finished with 2/29 from his four overs. Team captain Andre Fletcher intimated that his side need to improve in order to challenge in the competition.
“As a fielding unit, we are not helping the bowlers.” Fletcher said after the match. “We can’t be dropping catches and expect to win matches against powerful batting line-ups. Catches win matches and we have to do that, and buck up on our fielding.”
