[Swimming & Diving] SAU men, women sweep duals from Coe

Back in their home pool, the Bees defeated Coe College in a dual Friday night. The men won 165-60 while the women won 162-57 at Davenport Central.

Quincy Walker and Rais Hassim both won a pair of events for the St. Ambrose men.

Walker took the 100-yard backstroke in 54.31 seconds, with teammates Victor Del Rio Foces and Caleb Gaylor finishing second and third. Walker also won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.29 seconds. Kevin Krupitzer was second and Jonathan Whittle took third as the Bees claimed the top seven spots in the event.

Hassim won the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:21.14 with Isaac Garcia taking second. He also won the 100-yard breaststoke in 1:00.42, edging runner-up Petter Kolaas.

Five other Bee men also won individual events.

Garcia took the 1000-yard freestyle swim in 10:29.63. Anthony Erramouspe was second. Gaylor won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.75. Reece Powell helped the Bees finish first through fifth in the 100-yard butterfly by winning with a time of 53.44 seconds. Brandon Anderson was second and Nathan Kuszynski placed third. Ryan Warrick (48.68 seconds), Krupitzer, Bryce Hoffer and Zac Robinson finished first, second, third, fourth in the 100-yard freestyle. Justin Fales won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:54.05. Kuszynski was second and Leo Edwards third.

SAU also took the top three spots in both relays.

Gabe Carlson, Krupitzer, Hassim and Warrick took the 200-yard medley relay in 1:37.64. Walker, Kolaas, Anderson and Robinson were second. Kuszynski, Garcia, Warrick and Carmelo Patti combined for a winning time of 7:29.82 in the 800-yard freestyle relay. Powell, Fales, Ryan Joehl and Hoffer were runners-up.

The women were equally dominant, winning nine individual events. 

Andrea Adam and Taylor Madison finished 1-2 in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Adam collected a score of 251.85 in the 1-meter event and a 188.35 in the 3-meter. Adam also earned a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle with Isabelle Shook taking third.

Bethany Anderson also won a pair of events. She touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:04.94 and later won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.48.

Valentina Espinosa won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:14.81. Molly Sullivan (5:41.55), Emily Hartman and Victoria Thorne finished first, second, third in the 500-yard freestyle. Hartman also won the 400-yard individual medley in 5:03.87 with Thorne taking second. Jade Hoogestraat won the 1000-yard freestyle with her time of 12:23.83. Caitlin Pieroni was runner-up. Danielle Juco was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:02.75.

Catie Schimmelpfenning, who had a second-place effort in the 100-yard freestyle, also anchored a pair of relay-winning teams.

Anderson, Sullivan, Kelly Baughman and Schimmelpfenning won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.61. Baughman, Hartman, Delaney Janosek and Schimmelpfenning took the 800-yard freestyle in 8:43.77.

St. Ambrose will next visit Olivet Nazarene on Feb. 1.
