Miguel Almiron has to cut out the cheating as third yellow of season for diving gets him sent off

Miguel Almiron has had a tough start to the season.

Along with many other Newcastle players he has struggled due to Steve Bruce’s overly negative tactics.

Tactics that have often left himself and Joelinton isolated from the rest of the team and totally outnumbered by defenders.

Hopefully Sunday suggests some change in that, as whilst Newcastle still struggled to create chances, at least the introduction of both Allan Saint-Maximin and Matty Longstaff saw a little bit more adventure at times in terms of getting more players forward in support.

As well as Bruce’s negative tactics, Miguel Almiron hasn’t been helped by his own personal choices at times, choosing to shoot when he should pass and vice-versa, as well as delaying his shot through maybe a lack of confidence when through on goal against Man Utd.

With all of that, the last thing we need is for Miguel Almiron to add ridiculous diving to his play.

On Sunday, the Paraguayan picked up his second booking of the season when diving, Almiron in a great position but choosing to go down. A repeat of when he tried to win a penalty against Arsenal through cheating.

I hate seeing players do this anyway but to do it now you have VAR in the Premier League, is really really stupid.

On Thursday night, Miguel Almiron picked up his third yellow card of the season for diving.

Hopefully this time he will have learned his lesson because it caused him to get sent off as well.

Miguel Almiron had picked up a yellow card for dissent in the 43rd minute when Paraguay had a goal disallowed for a foul and so, when the Newcastle player dropped to the ground embarrassingly in the 54th minute, a second yellow added up to a red.

Once again it was daft, Miguel Almiron had made a great run and Paraguay had three against two as he raced into the box but chose to drop to the ground when a player put his hand on his chest with the faintest of touches. If Almiron had stayed on his feet there was every chance they would have taken the lead.

The referee was only around five yards away from the incident which made it even more stupid for Almiron to do what he did.

The only complaint he could possibly have is that the referee chose to still send him off despite it only being a friendly.

To make matters even worse, after a very good performance Paraguay ended up losing, as former Newcastle forward Aleksandar Mitrovic struck a last gasp winner for Serbia with an excellent header.

Hopefully though this red card will have taught Miguel Almiron a valuable lesson, as the last thing NUFC need is to lose points/players through cheating.

(Elsewhere, Martin Dubravka was beaten in the 25th minute by Kieffer Moore but Slovakia equalised in the 53rd minute through Kucka. Dubravka’s team then dominating but unable to find a winner. The game ending 1-1.)
