Andrew Seliskar leads Cal men to sixth NCAA swimming title

Cal won its sixth NCAA men’s swimming and diving championship Saturday night in Austin, Texas, beating second-place Texas 560-475. The Longhorns had won four straight national titles.

Senior Andrew Seliskar ended his Bears career with four national titles — three in this meet. He set a school record in the 200-yard breaststroke Saturday night, a win that sealed the title for Cal.

Seliskar also combined with Pawel Sendyk, Ryan Hoffer and Michael Jensen to close out the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay. Their time of 2:26.41 set a school record.

It’s the fourth national title for Cal under head coach David Durden, the first since 2014.

Stanford finished 15th.

Tennis: Ashleigh Barty had 15 aces and beat Karolina Pliskova 7-6 (1), 6-3 in the final of the Miami Open. The 22-year-old Australian, who was seeded 12th, won her fourth title and the biggest of her career. She improved to 18-3 this year and will rise to a career-high ranking of No. 9 next week.

Barty is the 33rd player to win a title in as many ATP and WTA tournaments this year

“Amazing, isn’t it?” Barty said. “On the women’s side, I think the level has evened out a lot, and the depth has grown over the last few years. Everyone in the draw has a legitimate chance of winning the tournament, and you try to make the most of it.”

Roger Federer could become tennis’ first repeat champion this year when he plays John Isner in the men’s final Sunday. Federer won in Dubai early this month.
