[Swimming & Diving] Men second, women fourth at Kohawk Invitational

The St. Ambrose men finished second and the women took fourth at the Coe Kohawk Invitational Saturday and Sunday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Bee men totaled 857 points to finish second behind Midland (962). Coe was third and Morningside came in fourth.

Kevin Krupitzer was the lone individual winner for the SAU men. He won the 100-yard breaststroke in 58.01 seconds. Krupitzer was also third in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:16.62. He took fifth in the 100-yard individual medley in 57.69 seconds and was seventh in the 200-yard individual medley.

Nathan Kuszynski had two runner-up finishes, taking second in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.58 and in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:52.40. He was also 10th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Victor Del Rio Foces was second in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.98 seconds. Del Rio Foces also scored in five other individual events. He placed third in the 100-yard backstroke, fifth in both the 200-yard backstroke and 200-yard individual medley, sixth in the 200-yard freestyle and 11th in the 100-yard butterfly.

Carmelo Patti earned a runner-up spot in the 100-yard individual medley with his time of 56.68 seconds. He was also sixth in the 100-yard butterfly, seventh in the 200-yard breaststroke and 10th in the 200 IM.

The Bees got contributions up and down the lineup.

Justin Fales took third in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:59.59) and 1650-yard freestyle (17:32.01) and added a fifth-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle among his five top-12 finishes. Ryan Warrick also scored in five events, highlighted by his time of 49.03 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, good for third place. He was also fifth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 back.

David Hall was fifth in the 100-yard and sixth in the 200-yard backstroke as he scored in four events. Reece Powell was eighth in the 50-yard and ninth in the 200-yard freestyle events while also scoring in four events. Mitch Berendes (fourth in the 50 free in 22.52 seconds, sixth in the 100 breaststroke), Sam Sutter (fourth in the 1650 free in 17:41.45, eighth in 500 free), Jonathan Whittle (eighth in the 100 free) and Bryce Hoffer each scored in three events. Jason Schuler was eighth in the 100-yard butterfly.

Also earning points for the Bees were: Diego Hernandez (1650 free, 500 free), Grant Hamilton (100 fly, 200 fly), Keagan Dolphin (100 free, 100 IM), Zac Robinson (500 free), Noah Hoogestraat (100 breast), Nolan Hare (100 back), Tyler Finney (100 back), Matt Kemp (100 back) and Josh Fleming.

The Bees also had two teams score in each of the five relays.

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Whittle, Powell, Warrick and Del Rio Foces took second and Berendes, Krupitzer, Schuler and Dolphin were fifth. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Krupitzer, Del Rio Foces, Warrick and Powell were second and Dolphin, Hoffer, Patti and Hall were seventh. In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Kuszynski, Del Rio Foces, Powell and Fales finished third while Krupitzer, Warrick, Sutter and Whittle took fourth. In the 200-yard medley relay, Del Rio Foces, Krupitzer, Schuler and Whittle placed third and Hall, Berendes, Patti and Powell were fifth. And in the 400-yard medley relay, Del Rio Foces, Krupitzer, Schuler and Warrick were fourth and Hall, Berendes, Patti and Whittle were fifth.
