[Swimming & Diving] St. Ambrose gets wins at Midland

The No. 8 St. Ambrose men's swimming and diving team defeated No. 7 Midland 339-333, while the women were first among four teams at the Midland Invite Saturday.

Justin Fales and Kevin Krupitzer each won a pair of individual events to help the Bees move to 4-1 in duals this year.

Fales won the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:30.77 and took the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.08, while teammate Sam Sutter finished second in both events. Krupitzer touched the wall first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke in times of 57.83 seconds and 2:14.68, respectively. Carmelo Patti finished second in the 200 breast in 2:24.58.

Nathan Kuszynski was runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.31 and Ryan Warrick finished third. Kuszynski also took second in the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:29.20. Victor Del Rio Foces also collected two runner-up finishes, placing second in the 100-yard backstroke (54.71 seconds) and 200-yard backstroke (2:02.19). David Hall was third in both events.

Jonathan Whittle was second in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.74 seconds while Reece Powell was right behind in third in 22.79 seconds. Powell also took third in the 100-yard freestyle event. Josh Fleming was third in the 100-yard butterfly.

Del Rio Foces and Krupitzer teamed with Fleming and Whittle to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:39.45. Hall, Patti, Grant Hamilton and Powell were third. Warrick, Powell, Fales and Krupizter were second in the 400-yard freestyle relay, with Whittle, Fleming, Keagan Dolphin and Tristen Hughes placing third.

The women collected 218 points to outdistance Saint Mary (190), Concordia (163) and Midland (131).

Catie Schimmelpfenning won two events - the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle in 25.98 seconds and 55.78 seconds, respectively. Mallory Krpan was third in the 50-free.

Shraddha Sudhir's time of 12:31.49 won the 1000-yard freestyle and she later added a third-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley. Dani Crum also added a first- and third-place finish, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:05.92 and finishing third in the 200-yard backstroke.

Kelly Baughman was second in the 100-yard butterfly in 1:04.98 and third in the 200-yard butterfly. Grace Johanns was third in the 500-yard freestyle swim.

Crum, Logan Nemlowill, Baughman and Schimmelpfenning were second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:57.44 and second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:55.90.
