Proteas lose captain Faf for rest of Sri Lankan tour
JOHANNESBURG – Proteas captain Faf du Plessis was ruled out of the remainder of the Sri Lankan tour on Monday because of the injury he incurred to his right shoulder while diving for a catch in the third ODI.
“Faf sustained an injury to one of the rotator cuff tendons in his right shoulder. He will need a rehabilitation period of up to six weeks to make a full recovery,” said Proteas team manager Mohammed Moosajee.
The selectors will name the stand-in captain for the remainder of the ODI series and one-off T20 international next Tuesday. No replacement has been added to the squad.
Du Plessis’ absence will open up a spot for Heinrich Klaasen, who is deserving of another look, given his performances against India last summer.
Having wrapped up the series 3-0 in Kandy on Sunday courtesy of a 78-run victory, South Africa will be out to make it 4-0 in Wednesday’s fourth match, a day-night game, at the same Pallekelle International Stadium at 11am SA time.
