Someone help Jimbo Fisher look less awkward doing Texas A&M things

The Aggies new head man is diving headfirst into A&M tradition. He needs a hand.

Texas A&M has one of the most unique fan cultures in college football. The former military school is steeped in tradition and it holds onto it fiercely.

That puts Jimbo Fisher in an interesting position. Fisher’s personality isn’t exactly that of the hokey variety. As coach at Florida State, he wasn’t much for the fun fan traditions like the Seminoles’ tomahawk chop. It’s just not really his speed.

Most recently, he’s done Texas things like judging a rodeo:

Given his personality, it’s an inherently humorous visual.

But Fisher’s been getting the distilled Texas experience since Day 1.

Fisher was greeted by quite a bit of fanfare right as he got off of the plane for his introductory press conference in December. He didn’t really acknowledge it beyond a half-hearted thumbs up at all as he walked the maroon carpet into a waiting car.

Later that day, he attended a women’s basketball and got roped into doing the “saw ‘em off” move to the fight song. It mocks bitter rival Texas to the lyrics “saw varsity’s horns off.”

Now, this was his first day on the job, so you can’t really grade him too harshly, but there was his first interaction with Reveille, the Aggies beloved mascot.

And that brings us to the best joke message board post I’ve ever seen.

That spawned a hilarious message board post that is clearly satire although I’d love to believe that it isn’t. Like any good satire, its humor is derived in the fact that it’s not too far off from plausible reality.

The fact is, A&M loves its traditions and its fanfare, and if Fisher can get the Ags where they want to go, he’ll be in many more spots to hopefully be less awkward in public.
