Shen diver Nick Lydon captures state crown
Nick Lydon capped a stellar Shenendehowa diving career with a state championship Friday.
The Florida-bound senior blew away the competition on his last three dives at Nassau Aquatic Center (Long Island).
The four-time sectional champion's last attempt – a front-21/2 pike – received a score of 8.5.
"I put it (the dive) last because it's my most consistent dive and I wanted to end on a good note," Lydon said. "It was a rough start for me, but I tried to block that out."
Lydon finished third last year and sixth the year before at the state meet.
"It was a long time coming," Lydon said.
