Matt Murray gives Penguins highlight reel save after diving stick stop
Mark Letestu had an entire net to shoot at, and got stick instead.
After getting blown out of the water in their previous game by a score of 7-1, any save the Pittsburgh Penguins make at this point should be cause for celebration. On Tuesday, goaltender Matt Murray gave Penguins fans something to really cheer for with his best save of the season.
With Mark Letestu on the doorstep, Murray was able to slide across his net and bat the puck out of the air with just his stick alone.

The full video of the play is even wackier, as the entire series of events between the Penguins and Oilers should have resulted in a goal for Edmonton if not for the defense of Brian Dumoulin and Murray’s stops in net.
Murray was also really lucky not to bat the puck into his own net as he was diving across the crease to block the puck with his stick.

Murray hasn’t had the best of starts for the Penguins this year, as he came into Tuesday’s game with a .896 save percentage despite winning all five games he played so far this season.
While Letestu isn’t, say, Connor McDavid out there, Murray has been solid so far against the Oilers, as he’s stopped all 26 shots faced through two periods.
