2015 Bicycle Advocacy Day Highlights

By: Kristi Gdanetz MacCready, Advocacy Day participant Today was Lucinda Means Bicycle Advocacy Day in Michigan, and my first time participating in this type of event. This is an annual event hosted by the League of Michigan Bicyclists, Michigan Trails & Greenways Alliance, Michigan Mountain Biking Association, and PEAC (Programs to Educate all Cyclists). The purpose of Advocacy Day is to meet with politicians at the Capitol to advance legislation that makes bicycling safer in Michigan.  Previously Advocacy Day has resulted in the addition of increased awareness regarding bicycles and motorcycles in driver education materials, and the option to use your right arm to signal a right turn.
