WE’RE HIRING: Prince George’s County Organizer

The Team

WABA’s Advocacy Team focuses on building relationships with community members and decision-makers, hosting and coordinating campaigns, and advancing projects and policies. The Prince George’s County Organizer will be part of WABA’s supportive and collaborative Advocacy Team and reports to the Maryland Organizer. The WABA Advocacy team includes: the Advocacy Director, three regional Organizers, and a Coalitions Coordinator.

The Job

The Organizer will work with community members and organizations across the county to build support for improved legislation, transportation plans, and an expanded network of bikeable, walkable roads and trails in Prince George’s County. 

This position is part of the Transport Workers Union Local 320 and is classified as a level two role.

In this role, you’ll take the lead on:

(30%) Community Education & Outreach

  • Educating individual community members and leaders on key issues through outreach, community meetings, public hearings, walking tours, and bike rides.

(20%) Relationship & Coalition Building

  • Collaborating and building relationships with community organizations and coalitions in Prince George’s County to build deep support for bikeable, walkable roads and trails and intersectional issues.

(20%) Legislative & Plan Coordination

  • Coordinating with community members and partner organizations to support county and state legislation and transportation plans (e.g., Go Prince George’s).

(15%) Supporter Cultivation

  • Cultivating new supporters through grassroots outreach and coalition building.

(10%) Campaign Communications

  • Drafting compelling action alerts, blog posts, newsletters, and campaign materials.

(5%) Organizational Support

  • Supporting shared WABA activities such as staffing WABA events, stuffing envelopes, loading equipment, and tidying up.

Core Skills and Experience

Consider applying if you meet at least 75% of these requirements:

  • 1-2 years of experience in advocacy, community organizing, and/or political campaigns.
  • Experience in community event planning and hosting.
  • Strong communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects from start to finish.
  • Experience building and maintaining diverse coalitions or direct experience working with underserved communities.
  • A deep commitment to equity and social justice.
  • Familiarity with the legislative process, particularly at the county and state level in Maryland.
  • Familiarity with the transportation planning and engagement process, particularly at the county and state level in Maryland.
  • Technological fluency, specifically with Google Workspace (G-Suite), Salesforce, and WordPress.

Useful Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with safe streets issues in Prince George’s County.
  • Experience engaging and navigating government agencies.
  • Experience applying creative thinking to grassroots organizing.
  • Ability to quickly digest and distill complicated information for public consumption.
  • Comfort speaking in front of large groups and leading meetings with diverse stakeholders.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a part-time (16 hours per week), salaried, overtime non-exempt position with a monthly salary of $2,500. The position is funded for the duration of 2026. Additional benefits include:

  • Vacation and sick leave, including:
    • Accrue up to 30 hours of paid vacation starting in your first year, with additional hours after two, five, and ten years of service.
    • Accrue up to 160 hours annually of paid sick time (24 hours accrue per year).
  • WABA supports and promotes the health of its staff. You may use accrued sick time for unscheduled leave when not feeling well (mind or body), as well as for scheduled medical appointments.
  • Paid time off for holidays generally following the federal holiday calendar (prorated at 50%).
  • Time off between Christmas and New Year’s.
