DC Strategic Bikeways Plan 2025: Ward 6 Opportunities
Let’s make sure key Ward 6 needs are included as District Strategic Bikeways Plan (SBP) priorities!
The District Dept. of Transportation (DDOT) states that “the Bike Lane Program plans to build an additional 50 miles of bicycle lanes across the District over the next 5 years.” Please communicate your bicycling, safety concerns, network gaps, and project ideas to DDOT via the Strategic Bikeways Plan Public Comment Map.
We’ve created a working list of projects and needs – we’ll plan to update it based on feedback we receive – and we’re happy to share priorities expressed in:
- an ANC 6A letter to DDOT regarding Strategic Bikeways Plan priorities and
- a map with the Hill Family Biking Strategic Bike Plan Wishlist, also put forward by the ANC 6A Transportation and Public Space Committee.
We’ll call out a few key Ward 6 priority bikeway routes requiring protected bike lanes, focusing on longer-distance, corridor routes rather than local connections, which DDOT should pursue as a matter of course:
- Massachusetts Avenue NE between 1st St. NE and 19th St. SE, through Columbus Circle, Lincoln Park, and Stanton Park.
- 11th St. SE, between Lincoln Park and the Anacostia River bridge, an upgrade of the current painted bike lanes. Sign a Hill Family Biking petition!
- Maryland Avenue NE between 2nd St. NE and 15th St. NE, that is, from Constitution Ave NE, via Stanton Park, to the Florida Ave.-Benning Road-Bladensburg Road NE intersection. (We’re also asking for Bladensburg Road NE (Ward 5) protected bike lanes, and Benning Road NE improvement!)
- South Carolina Ave SE between Massachusetts Ave SE and Marion Park.
- East Capitol Street between the RFK campus, around Lincoln Park, and the Capitol.
You can provide your comments NOW via DDOT’s Strategic Bikeways Plan Public Comment Map.
Are there other priorities WABA should post? Please let us know by e-mail to advocacy@waba.org or via our DC Bikeway Priorities form.
