A Note On Current Events

NWTA’s mission is executed in part by providing resources to mobilize trail maintenance across various trail systems in close partnership with land management agencies. Every year, roughly 50% of annual trail work on all of Oregon’s federal lands is done by local trail organizations.

NWTA is fortunate to have strong relationships and formal agreements in place with a number of land management partners at all government levels. Our stewardship activities are required to pause on federal lands (Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service) during the government shutdown. This includes Sandy Ridge, CLIMB at Cascade Locks/Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, and trails in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest. All systems are still open to trail users.

Our diverse portfolio of land management partners and funding sources means we are still able to execute our mission at all state and local levels. THANK YOU for making this possible.

NWTA is steadfast in knowing our work would not be possible without agency partners. That often includes agency staff that are present at trail work days. Many of you may have met the rangers at Hagg Lake and Stub Stewart; the recreation staff at the Gifford Pinchot and Sandy Ridge; or the trail stewardship team members with Portland Parks & Recreation. These individuals are just as committed to our trails, and we are grateful for their presence and partnership.

We extend our gratitude to our local volunteers that lead the work days and events at the affected trail systems as we navigate the next steps, and we thank everyone in our community for your patience and support.
