Truth & Reconciliation Day Ride

0 84

On Sept. 30, over 500 riders joined us for the 5th Annual Truth & Reconciliation Day Ride. Families and individuals came together to learn about the impacts of residential school on survivors and their families and how to be an ally and move forward positively in the world. We heard from emcee Diane Sam, of Songhees First Nation, Residential School Survivor Eddy Charlie of Quw’utsun and from friends and Allies Jenny Farkas and Su Hallett. Thanks to our generous sponsors Cox Taylor Lawyers, Country Grocer, Discovery Coffee and CHEK TV for making the ride possible.

Although the ride is a fond memory, there is still time to provide a small donation to support bicycle education for First Nations children and youth and other Indigenous service projects.

To Continue your journey we encourage anyone interested to explore the following learning opportunities:

San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training Program

Kairos Blanket Exercise

Building Bridges Through Understanding the Village

Eddy asks us to recognize that “reconciliation should not be about an apology nor should it be like a holiday or a birthday when we have a ceremony once a year. Reconciliation should be like a river continuous and always making changes”.

Thank you to our partners and community sponsors!

Without the support of our community, the Truth and Reconciliation Day Ride would not be possible.
