Advice on rider progression and coaching

0 9

We’re excited to launch two refreshed advice pages on the PPYCC website — one for young riders, and a brand new section just for parents and carers.

Updated Rider Advice Page

Our Rider Advice page has been rewritten to give clearer, age-specific guidance for each stage of a young cyclist’s development — from Youth E right through to Juniors. Whether your child is riding for fun, fitness or national-level goals, this page will help you understand what to expect, how to support them, and how their training and racing can evolve over time. We are very grateful to former PPYCC riders Lukas Nerurkar and Felix English, who rode with PPYCC from an early age and have give on to race at elite international level, who share useful reflections on their own coaching journeys and top tips.

New Advice for Parents

Cycling can start out as a fun weekly activity and gradually grow into something more serious — and that’s where the new Advice for Parents page comes in. It brings together helpful resources on supporting young athletes, choosing the right moment for a personal coach, and creating a healthy balance between sport, school, and family life. You’ll also find our Parents and Carers Code of Conduct, links to expert advice from British Cycling, and inspiring stories about the vital role of positive, supportive parenting in the rider journey.

Both pages are designed to help you and your young rider enjoy every step of their cycling journey — whatever path they choose to take.
