A New Chapter for Hornsea Village: The Eastern Gateway of the Trans Pennine Trail

Formerly known as Hornsea Freeport, the shopping village near the eastern edge of the Trans Pennine Trail has officially rebranded as Hornsea Village — marking an exciting new chapter for this well-loved local destination.

Hornsea Village is a familiar and important stop for anyone walking or cycling near the coast. While it’s not the official start or end point of the entire route, it serves as a key eastern gateway — a welcoming place to rest, refresh, and connect with the local community and landscape before continuing on or after a coastal leg of their journey.

Known for its mix of great bargains and a welcoming atmosphere, Hornsea Village has been revitalised with a fresh identity that builds on its history while reflecting today’s needs and ambitions. The changes include a new name, updated signage, a new website, enhanced social media channels, and full events calendar — all designed to create a lively, family-friendly space that also attracts a younger generation of visitors.

More than just a convenient hub for retail, food, and leisure, Hornsea Village now connects more closely to the wider local experience. Through the Hornsea Village website and on-site signage, visitors are encouraged to explore Hornsea Life — discovering everything the town has to offer beyond the Village itself. As part of this, Hornsea Village will participate in the upcoming Starfish Galaxy Sculpture Trail, launching in January 2026. This creative art trail celebrates coastal life and aims to boost community pride, encourage outdoor activity, support local artists and businesses, and attract visitors to experience Hornsea as a whole. It’s an exciting way to connect the Village with the broader town and enrich the visitor journey.

For users of the Trans Pennine Trail, the stamping point has been reactivated at the Hornsea Village Information Centre, providing a safe, welcoming spot to rest and refresh. Cyclists and walkers will find essential facilities including toilets, a café, and shaded seating areas — all designed to make stopping off easy and comfortable.

The new identity was unveiled over Easter with popular family activities such as craft sessions, a digital Easter egg hunt, and a visit from Bluey — all warmly received by local families and visitors alike. Building on this success, Hornsea Village is hosting a packed summer programme of free, family-friendly events. Highlights include Saturday Stars meet-and-greets with favourite TV characters (Hey Duggee, Paddington, Gabby & Cakey), Wild Wednesdays nature-inspired craft workshops, and the Wild Weekend over the August Bank Holiday so there’s something for the whole family!

Hornsea Village also champions local makers, artists, and small businesses through markets like the Little Hummingbird Market and Hornsea Collective Open Studios, alongside the monthly Be Happy Makers Market, which invite visitors to meet local creatives and enjoy live demos and workshops.

If you’re passing through on your journey, stopping off to explore the area, or visiting for events and markets, Hornsea Village is ready to welcome you. This is just the beginning — a fresh chapter that locals can be proud of and visitors will remember as an essential part of their experience in Hornsea.
