Call for Candidates: Ontario Cycling Gender Equity Steering Committee

Ontario Cycling is excited to announce a call for new members for our Gender Equity Steering Committee.

The Committee’s mission is to create an inclusive cycling experience in Ontario by supporting and advancing equal opportunities for all females in the sport. Over the past two years, we have worked to expand OC Women’s Week to Women’s month, have added weekly profiles of women & clubs, rider leader training for women’s rides and focused on increasing gender equity across all aspects of the organization and sport, including gender balance at the board and at the staff level.

As we head into a new strategic cycle, we are looking for new ideas and voices to help us to drive gender equity in cycling within the community here in Ontario. 

To that end, we are looking for new committee members from the Ontario Cycling community—including athletes, coaches, commissaires, club leaders, and volunteers—who are ready to contribute their voice, lived experience, and leadership to help shape meaningful change across all levels of cycling.

What You’ll Do:

• Support initiatives that empower females across all roles in the sport
• Contribute to the development of mentorship and leadership programs
• Advocate for inclusive club and leadership practices
• Help design campaigns and events that engage underrepresented communities
• Collaborate with Ontario Cycling staff and community partners on key equity strategies

Who Should Apply:

• Current Ontario Cycling members who are committed to equity, inclusion, and the advancement of females in cycling
• Individuals who bring diverse perspectives, including those who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ2+, or belong to other underrepresented groups
• Those interested in shaping the future of the sport in Ontario through innovation and collaboration

Commitment:

• Minimum of 4 meetings per year, held virtually.
• Asynchronous discussions on topics in between meetings.
• Additional opportunities to support special projects and campaigns
