I learned to ride an adaptive mountain bike in the fall of 2022.
How did you get into cycling?
I was able to attend an adaptive mountain biking (aMTB) camp in Canmore, Alberta where several women were coached in a beautiful mountain setting. I have spent the last two years riding as much as possible and learning about coaching and types of adaptive bikes to be able to offer a camp/training event in Ontario. The first event will be taking place at Long Point Eco Adventure and Turkey Point MTB Club trails May 23-25th. The event features an info session on aMTB and trails then Saturday hosts a women’s/non-binary/gender diverse supportive event followed by an all gender drop in/demo style event on Sunday for people with disabilities to try an adaptive bike. We will wrap it all up with a group ride.
What is your favorite discipline?
Adaptive MTB and Gravel.
Who is your favorite cyclist?
Sierra Roth. She’s my favourite because she was my first coach and is a trailblazer in the industry. Badass rider and an incredible human.
What has been your favorite event in 2024?
My favourite event in 2024 in Ontario was Chico Racing 24hr Summer solstice with the Handcycling Club of Canada crew! Even though it got rained out it was amazing and such a fun time!
What is something you want to see in the future of cycling?
More adaptive riders mixed in with non-disabled riders at events. More opportunities in Ontario for people to ride adaptive bikes.
