2024 Recap: Volunteer Efforts

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed last year! Here’s a quick summary of the hard work put into Bison Butte in 2024:

  • 146 Volunteers stepped up this year to help make a difference.
  • Together, they dedicated 538 hours to maintaining and improving the Bison Butte Trails.
  • The Green Team added another 387 hours, making it a total of825 hours of hard work that transformed Bison Butte into what it is today.
  • Our youngest volunteer was just 7 years old, proving that a passion for cycling starts early!
  • At 66 years old, our oldest volunteer showed that the cycling spirit has no age limit!
  • Mowing: While it may seem like mowing only happens a couple of times each season, Bison Butte was actually mowed 8-10 times between April and August, with each session taking about 60 hours.
  • Notable Feature Project: Wayne’s World, on the west side of the lake, saw the most updates. New wood features were added, older ones were refreshed, and significant drainage improvements were made to ensure a quicker dry-out by spring 2025. A few jumps on Goose It (after The Horn rock drops) also got some much-needed attention.
  • Notable Trail Tread Project: Many of the forest trails were reinforced with crushed concrete to improve durability during rain and help them dry out after the spring melt.
  • Most Used Tool: Everything! From mowers and whipper-snippers to McLeods, rogue hoes, rakes, and shovels—every tool got more use this summer than ever before.

We couldn’t have done it without the dedication of all our volunteers—thank you for your time, effort, and passion for Bison Butte!

Now, it’s time to do it all again! Dig Nights are a great way to learn more about trail building, meet other riders, and be part of a community that cares about maintaining and improving our local trails. Join us for our first Dig Nights of 2025 on Wednesday April 23, 2025, and stay connected for more opportunities to get involved throughout the season!
