Featured Artist: Shea Zona

We’re delighted to spotlight Shea Zona! A Tucson-based artist whose work spans photography, poetry, and jewelry, Shea brings a masterful touch to every medium — with bold, striking compositions that resonate profoundly with all.

Where are you from?

Tucson, Arizona

What got you started making art?

I have been making art my whole life, I love to experiment with all different mediums of art although my main projects include photography, poetry and jewelry making

What’s your artistic background? (experience, education, etc.)

I have a bachelors degree in fine art & photography from the U of A and I’ve been doing photography for over 15 years. I’ve always enjoyed making jewelry for myself and my friends but recently started experimenting with resin projects and my soldering iron and wanted to share these creations with the collective a few years ago.

Who or what are your biggest artists’ influences?

Nature, Salvador Dali, Andy Goldsworthy, Madonna

Where do you get your inspiration for your art?

When it comes to my jewelry, I consider it for the fairies. The ones who feel like a delicate yet strong flower with an edge. I love to combine nature into my jewelry as well, I first started collecting the moss and flowers from the Tahoe National Forest where I once lived and wanted to preserve it in resin and ended up making a lot of jewelry from it. Now I use flowers, dirt and crystals around Tucson or anywhere I feel called to create from/with.

When it comes to my photography, I’m inspired by all the unconventionality beautiful people, architecture and nature. Photos can be poetic so I use photography to express my perspective but I love candids more than anything.

Anything else?

Art heals and brings people together. I’m grateful for an inspiring and supportive community and to be able to create and learn new things everyday.

What brought you to BICAS?

I went to BICAS for the first time in 2013 to make a bike for myself.

How has BICAS affected you?

I love the energy and what BICAS provides for the community.

Why did you work with BICAS at Art Mart?

As a local artist, I’m very grateful for BICAS bringing the art collective together in a safe and fun environment.

Other upcoming events to find you?

I’ll be at the next Makers Market at the Tuxon! It will be held on December 7th and 8th from 1-6pm each day; I’ll be there on the 7th. There will be over 80 local vendors total. It’s a great opportunity to get some holiday shopping done!

Check out their Instagram and website for more of their work, and catch her at Realusion: Rave Fashion Show Hosted by TripShip Fashion on January 10th, in Phoenix, Arizona!
