Upper GriffenFromme

Big thanks to Brent and all Youth Trail Stewards, lots of dirt work has been completed lifting the trail tread. Foundations filled with rock and dirt. Older Gold hole covered and renaturalized.

Empress BypassSeymour

TAP Partner: Neptune Terminals

Repair work for Empress Bypass focussed on fixing slumped berms that had crumbled without support. Rebuilding of 2 berms near the bottom of Empress Bypass with improving drainage and re-establishing a safe route for AMTB riders too. Trail work was boosted with a RBC volunteer day, they were super stoked to come out and do something different for a trail day. Rebuild of 2 corners in 1 section, with drainage and more intentional rider line. Trying to keep things progressive, fun, fast and safe while giving room for AMTB riders to rip too!

Expresso love thanks to a host of volunteer trail days. Work focussed on berm refurbishment, with fresh drainage added and cleaned up, protruding rocks removed from trail tread and mineral soil added

 Meat SweatsCypress

A ton more work completed on Cypress repairing damage from the atmospheric river. Including preventative work to help protect trails in the future. Thanks to a big volunteers turn out, teams were able to split out and cover Meat Sweats & Jersey Shore.
On Meat Sweats – The area above and below the transfer jump was damaged when a side ditch burst its bank. The trail bed was repaired, with the ditch slightly relocated and enlarged. Another ditch straightened, widened and dug deeper. Debris was also removed from top to bottom and a jump was graded, reshaped and resurfaced.

TAP Partner: Comor & NS Ride

Wet weather increases builder focus on drainage with volunteers digging out drains and clearing trail debris between Baden Powell and the junction with John Deer. Tread work was completed to fill low spots with mineral soil to ensure water disperses off trail into drains. Special mention to @seymourbean & @steamworksbeer

Kirkford – Seymour

With sections of the trail badly eroding and falling away, cribbing and dirt were added to support and reclaim what was lost. Switchback corners that had slumped and fallen have been fixed up. Drainage ditches added, corners thickened and supported to give more strength. Large boulders removed from the middle of corners and repositioned to open up the ride line and those boulders used provide weight and support at the end of the turn. A right hand corner extended to push the ride line wider, increasing support in turn, opening sight lines and slightly widening trail corridor. Drainage added and a bunch of rotten wood removed.

King of the shoreFromme

Trail improvements completed on King of the Shore, include enhanced drainage, with trail tread resurfacing of key sections, and renaturalization efforts at the top corner to protect roots and restore the area. Volunteers removed rotting wood and back fillled downslope with rocks, slightly widening the rideable surface.

Continued post atmospheric river cleanup: armoured trail bed, and filled with mineral soil; graded jump exit berm to slope downhill for better drainage then refurbished and moved the berm closer to the trail. Cleared two clogged drains. Added mineral soil to the trail bed on a slope in order to shed water. Opened up a corner and turned it into a berm. Enhanced an existing berm.

Circuit 8 – Seymour

With donations from Arc’teryx and Trips For Kids, and in collaboration with Endless Biking, the NSMBA recently ran youth programs for KidSafe and Squamish Nation (via the Chief Joe Mathias Centre). These sessions were free to attend and focussed on getting youth aged 8-12 out onto the trails to participate in trail building and learn riding skills.

Rebuilt the catch corner at the bottom of the fall line, adding a left-hand berm and rebuilding the right-hand berm before the trail gap. Graded and ditched a low section to improve drainage and flow. Naturalized a braided area near the 20ft table. The catch corner had slumped over two years. The berm and surface were reshaped with added rock and dirt to increase height and steepness, helping riders carry more speed into the gap jump. A small grade reversal was added after the corner for better drainage. The S-turn before the gap had flat corners and poor drainage. The surface was graded, and mineral soil added to berm the left corner. The right corner was rebuilt, raised 2-3 ft., and steepened for more speed into the gap. The braided area was restored with replanting and organic soil.

The upper half of the trail was resurfaced to address erosion from the busy summer months, with mineral soil added and packed to restore the surface and reduce water channelling. Drainage points were cleared and widened to ensure proper runoff during winter rains, and spot maintenance filled in holes and braking bumps to smooth the ride. A big thanks to the volunteers, with support from Steed Cycles and Santa Cruz Bikes, for making this work possible.
