Arlene Woodcock: A Lasting Impact on Cycling

Arlene Woodcock has long been a pillar in the Manitoba cycling community, dedicating countless hours to her role as an official and National Road Commissaire. Her deep commitment to cycling is evident through her years of service in both road and cyclocross disciplines, where she has ensured the highest standards of fairness and professionalism. Her expertise in officiating has been recognized on multiple occasions, with Arlene being awarded the “Commissaire of the Year” honor in 2008 and again in 2010, as well as receiving MCA’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019, which honors her outstanding contributions to the sport of cycling in Manitoba.

On September 21st, 2024, Arlene officiated her last race at the Mennocross Cyclocross event, marking the end of an incredible chapter in her career.

Arlene’s influence, however, goes far beyond her technical knowledge and officiating capabilities. She is a mentor to many in the cycling community, offering guidance and support to up-and-coming officials and race organizers, and fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and safe atmosphere for riders of all levels. Whether overseeing provincial races or lending her expertise at larger national events, Arlene’s dedication to the sport is unwavering. Her calm demeanor and thorough understanding of the rules make her a respected figure among athletes, coaches, and fellow officials alike.

In addition to her role as an official, Arlene has been a driving force behind the growth and development of cycling in Manitoba. By ensuring that each event runs smoothly, she creates an environment where athletes can focus on performing at their best. Her meticulous attention to detail and firm yet fair approach have earned her the trust of the cycling community, contributing to the success of numerous cycling events across the province.
