Member Spotlight: Jeannine Avelino

Meet Jeannine Avelino one of our (Runner/Hiker) Members.

In your own words, what does being a member of the NSMBA mean to you?

It’s definitely a give and take relationship so being an NSMBA member allows me to support the backyard in which we spend most of our weekends (for free). We are so fortunate to have this amazing network of trails on the North Shore and more and more people are discovering it by bike or on foot. We need to be able to keep it in good shape in order to handle its growing popularity.

In what ways do you benefit from the trails?

Being on the trails is a mental break from the daily grind. It’s a great reset, but being in nature also allows me to push my body to its limits and create goals I can (hopefully) achieve.

How can we entice more people to support the local trail network?

I think more people need to know about the Runner/Hiker membership via social media, word of mouth or signage. All trail users need to do their part to support the trails, not just mountain bikers, and I think raising awareness will help with that.

With the introduction of the Runner/Hiker membership, I hope it strengthens the camaraderie between mountain bikers and trail runners/hikers. I hope that we’ll continue to strengthen our mutual respect for each other since we occupy the same space.

Thank you Jeannine!
