A week of "Twins" - Y-Foil and Giordana content

0 7
So....I sorta had a good week. A 1998 Y-66 showed up locally and lanquished awhile. It was sporting the original Ultegra 9 speed setup to include a 53/39 crank. I have been loving how the Y-77 was riding but it's geared more for climbing with a compact 50/34 on it. I figured what the heck and went to look at the Y-66. Cosmetically it's not the great from up close. But it was in top notch working order and seemed to have been well cared for despite the paint issues. So I grabbed it. Haven't done much too it right now other than sort out the fit and swap out the saddle. Did a 15 mile shakedown ride yesterday and it all worked well. Brifters are rattling a bit on the rough roads and some creaking in the stem/handlebars area. I'll sort that tonight. It does have a one bolt Icon Graphite stem but it's the wider version that was not recalled. Tonight I'm going to put on a new chain, swap out the wheels and tires for a set of Mavic Carbone SSC with some nice Vittoria Open Corsa CX 700 x 23 tires and then throw on some look pedals.

Tomorrow will be a real test ride to see how much speed the old legs can get out of it. I did 45 miles today with 3000 ft of climbing on the Y-77 so I hope I still have gas in the tank for tomorrow. I should mention that the Y-77 feels super solid and stable on high speed descents.

Anyway, one quick shot of the new (used) Y-Foil:

And it's younger Twin:
