Vincenzo Nibali has been forced to abandon the Tour de France due to injuries he sustained in a crash inside five kilometres from the finish of stage 12 to Alpe d'Huez.
July must be a claustrophobic month for Romain Bardet (AG2R La Mondiale), who finds teeming forests of microphones and cameras sprouting up around him at every stage start and finish. Same as it ever was for a Frenchman endeavouring to win the Tour de France.

After being on the attack for much of the day on the road to Alpe d'Huez, Steven Kruijswijk (LottoNL-Jumbo) takes the Zwift Rider of the Day on stage 12 of the Tour de France. His daring 70km solo attack looked like being a stage winner until just 3km from the line.
As if his stage win and day in the maillot jaune of the Tour de France weren't enough, Geraint Thomas (Team Sky) darted away from the leading group to claim the most coveted stage win of the race on Alpe d'Huez.
Vincenzo Nibali's continued participation in the Tour de France is in severe doubt as he sustained a suspected fractured vertebra when he crashed a little over 4 kilometres from the summit of stage 12.
