Specialized Allez Epic - Downtube shifters?

So I have this 1991 Specialized Allez Epic. When I picked it up it was converted to braking and shifting both on the left side of the handlebar. I dunno. But anyways, trying to convert this back to original I'm not sure if it had downtube shifters or brifters. I've seen pictures online of both. It is a Shimano 105 bike with a 7 speed cassette. Doesn't look like downtube shifters will fit though. I'm stumped.
