San Francisco Bike check

I'm back, this time in San Francisco and I'm going to see about a bike from Craigslist tomorrow. At the moment it seems to be an original owner who is offloading a Late 70s bike but I want to be above board so is there a way to register the Bike with SFPD or a local bike group to see...
