CX Gear Inch Range

Hi,

I'm building my first Cyclocross bike and am wondering what gear inch range would be ideal. I'm building it up as a 1x10.

Would 40-80 be sufficient? 30-100? I'm medium build and only mildly athletic btw.

I've been going over all kinds of chainring and cassette options on Sheldon Brown's site...
