Brake Issues on New Bike (linear-pull type)

I bought a cheap Schwinn retro styled cruiser hybrid bicycle on Amazon. Of all the bikes I have had over the years, I've never had this type of issue. I assume it to be simply a matter of adjustment. The brakes don't work right. I have never had to adjust v-brake type brakes in the...
