Canada’s Team Jacobs bounces back with win at 2026 Winter Olympics

CORTINA d’AMPEZZO, Italy — Canada won its only game on Sunday, maintaining its strong position near the top of the men’s standings at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Team Brad Jacobs of Calgary (4-1) earned a 6-3 victory over China’s Team Xiaoming Xu during the evening draw at Cortina Curling Olympic Stadium.

Jacobs credited the win to a productive team meeting held after Saturday’s loss to undefeated Switzerland, which helped the team reset and refocus.

“Sometimes it’s great to just be together as a team and think of a few things that we need to work on in order to improve and bounce back,” Jacobs said. “We came up with a few things, and we were able to execute on that tonight.

“It was mostly about energy, engagement, intensity, and really going out there with that passion and will to want to win and sticking together and being a world-class team and world-class teammates to one another.”

The turning point came in the eighth end. Leading by two without hammer, Canada stacked several stones deep in the house, forcing China into a difficult shot. China’s miss left Team Jacobs sitting two and extended their lead to four points late in the game.

China took a single point in the ninth and then conceded.

This matchup was a rematch of the bronze-medal game at the 2025 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship, where Canada took third place on home ice in Calgary.

Skip Jacobs, vice-skip Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant, lead Ben Hebert, alternate Tyler Tardi, team coach Paul Webster, and national coach Jeff Stoughton currently hold second place in the standings, with a game in hand over Great Britain’s Team Bruce Mouat (4-2).

Switzerland’s Team Yannick Schwaller remains the only undefeated team, sitting atop the standings at 5-0.

“I just thought we put our energy in the right places today,” Gallant said. “You know, there’s a lot of noise, it seemed like in the past couple of games. We just put our attention into the details and what gives our team as much success. So I think we did a really good job of that tonight, and that’s turned into a win.”

On Monday, Team Jacobs has one game on the docket against Czechia’s Team Lukas Klima (0-5) at 8:05 a.m. (all times Eastern).

Canada’s Team Rachel Homan had Sunday off. The Ottawa-based team is back on the ice against China’s Team Rui Wang (2-2) on Monday at 3:05 a.m., followed by Japan’s Team Sayaka Yoshimura (1-4) at 1:05 p.m.
