Advice for the Slav with 8 ... B-d6
Hi again to all, and especially Mr. Rudel.
Here is my issue. In Zuke 'em it talks about B-d6 not having any bite because the h2 pawn is poisoned. And , if I understand correctly, based on the fact that Bd6 is kinda pointless / plan-less most black players will play 8... Nbd7 and kinda "put off" dealing with development of the bishop.
Anyway, after 8... Nbd7 it is suggested that 9. c5 is an improvement and the books goes on to provide support for that assertion.
However, if the bonehead, uhm I mean black, plays 8. ... Bd6 first then 9. c5 will just be met by Bc7.
I guess my point is that there is a book called "White Opening System: Combining the Stonewall attack, Colle System, and Torre Attack" By Andrew Soltis.
In the book he gives a game: Colle .vs. Delvaux 1929.
1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 e6 3. e3 d5 4. Bd3 c5 5. c3 Nc6 6. Nbd2 Be7 7. 0-0 c4 8. Bc2
And states that c4 is a mistake because of the central pawn break with e4 threatening to go to e5.
I know the positions are not exactly the same but they are similar. The question is whether the "differences" make a c5 push ok.
Anyway any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
