Dundee City teams is a joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.

Dundee City teams make it 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. We have two teams in the play-offs and gaining promotion, with another on the cusp of the play-off`s and promotion, and one trying to defend their title! We also have two teams fighting off relegation!

Just another day in the office for Dundee City!

RESULTS

Div 1 – Group A
Dundee City A (2303) 3 – 1 (1988) Hebden Bridge 1
Another hard battle and another good win for Dundee City A, putting them in 3rd place on 9 points with one round left. Shropshire & Friends 1, lead on 10 points, with Wessex Some Stars A on 9 points in 2nd place. Dundee City A will need a little help with other results to once again reach the play-offs. They have a better game point difference from Wessex Some Stars A and a win would normally guarantee a play-off spot but for the unfortunate default Dundee City A suffered due to a power-cut! The number of defaults is the first tie-breaker! Miracles can happen, but it would be a cruel way to go out!
Well played, Richard Polaczek IM, Declan Shafi, Ian McDonald & Rishi Vijayakumar J13!

Div 1 – Group B
Dundee City B (2054) ½ – 3½ (2125) Farnham A
Dundee City B were up against it with their backs to the wall against a very strong Farnham A. As expected, it was an up-hill struggle, with Ed Spencer, Stephen Hogg & Alastair Dawson all losing, and draw master, David Findlay on board one getting the expected draw!
This leaves Dundee City B in 6th place on 5 points, just above the relegation spot on game points! With only one round left, a win for Dundee City B would guarantee division one status! Anything else, and it`s in the lap of the Gods with many permutations!

Div 2 – Group B
Dundee City C (1875) 2½ – 1½ (1627) Oxford 3
Congratulations to Dundee City C on another great result which guarantees them a play-off spot and promotion to division 1! This sets up the possibility of three Dundee City teams in division one! Now that would be something else!  They are also on a 100% record with one round to go!
Well played Graham Mooney, Dariusz Kosznik, Ross Bremner & Theodoros Vasilliadis!

Div 3 – Group A
Dundee City D (1733) 2 – 2 (1551) Streatham B
Dundee City D made hard work of it, but in the end, not only got a good draw, but they have given themselves a fantastic opportunity to reach the play-offs and promotion to division two! Dundee City D sit in 3rd place on 9 points, with two teams above them on ten points. But those two team’s face-off against each other, leaving the door ajar for Dundee City to pip one of them to the play-offs, if Dundee City can win against bottom side Watford! Dundee City D also have the a “Get out of Jail” free card if the two top teams draw and Dundee City D win, leaving all three teams on 11 points, but Dundee would be guaranteed a play-off spot on game points!

Well played Richard Kynoch, Joshua Crofts, Ross Brennan & Cosmo Bobak!

Div 4 – Group B

Dundee City E (1611) 3 – 1 (1444) The Hemel`s Gambit
Talk about punching hard in a tough division as Dundee City E just keep doing the business with another outstanding win! Congratulations to Dundee City E, siting top of their group on 11 points and reaching the play-offs and promotion to division 3! Honestly, well played James Anderson, Leyton Hackney, Alisdair McLeod & Trevor Harley! I do not have superlatives left to do you justice!

Div 4 – Group A
Beckenham (1728) 2 – 2 (1579) Dundee City F
It was a draw, but this draw was more like a win for Dundee City F against a very strong Beckenham! Out graded on all boards, it was a diamond performance from Robert Jackson, John Robertson, Sir Philip Cohen and the amazing, Ray Flood! This draw has given Dundee City F an outside chance of avoiding the drop sitting in 7th place on 3 points. They “MUST” win their last match against Charlton Cobras C, who sit above them on 4 points which means it`s in their own hands! You can`t ask for better than that!

Div 5 (Swiss)

Dundee City G (1461) 1½ – 2½ (1446) Irish Jazz
Both teams were evenly matched, but the “Irish” just had more “Jazz” on the night, and maybe the luck of the Irish as well! On another night it could have gone Dundee City G`s way, but not this time! Dundee City G sit in 13th place on 6 points and 15 game points. Well played Euan Murray, Matthew Hunter, Ed Walton and Ana Belen Otero Seijas!

Dundee City H (1139) 2½ – 1½ (847) Colchester JFF C
Congratulations to Dundee City H on a good win against Colchester JFF C! This puts them on 5 points and still with an outside change of finishing above Dundee City G in the table and bragging rights!
Well played Chris Moore, Leonardo Devisme, Judith Firth and newbie Moritz Bogs!
Judith was left fuming with herself after allowing a stalemate in a won game! Hoppen’s to us all, especially when we are just starting our chess journey!

Round 7 (last qualifying round) on Tuesday 5th December 23, 7:30pm
