World Chess Championship 2023 with no official website

0 14

With the World Champion Magnus Carlsen decision not to defend his title, the chess world is about to see a major change. For the first time in ten years a new champion will be crowned in the match between the winner and the runner-up of the 2022 Candidates Tournament, Ian Nepomniachtchi and Ding Liren. With only 10 days left to the start of the event, the World Chess Championship 2023 has no official website.

The World Chess Championship 2023: Nepomniachtchi qualifies for the World Chess Championship as winner of the Candidates / Ding Liren qualifies for the World Championship as runner-up of the Candidates / Astana will host the World Chess Championship

The opening ceremony of the World Chess Championship 2023 is scheduled for April 7th. Yet FIDE.com, the official website of the International Chess Federation, has no prominent mention nor link to the event. The most related menu item is the “Championship” tab, but it leads to the next FIDE cycle (including the just announced Candidates 2024). One has to dig much deeper into the calendar to find a page on the event – with a start date and a link to the official website worldchampionship.fide.com , but only to realize that this link still redirects to the FIDE cycle page and has practically no essential information on the Ding Liren – Ian Nepomniachtchi match.
