SCOTTISH CHESS TOUR

DUNDEE FIDE ALLEGRO
Invercarse Hotel
Sun 5th March 23
5 – round Swiss; 20 minutes + 10 seconds

There were two events in play:

  • The Open Section: 14 entries: (7 Dundee City players): Castlehill (3) & Dundee (4))
Castehill (3): Dariusz Kosznik; Rishi Vijayakumar & Ross Brennan(online member):
Dundee (4): David Findlay; Alastair Dawson; Keith Emery & Ray Flood):
  • Intermediate Section U1600; 18 entries (10 Dundee City players; Castlehill (9) & Dundee (1))
(Castlehill (9): Leyton Hackney; Kit McEvoy Gould; Ray Noble; Keith Rose; Ana Belen Seijas Otero; Daniel Coleman; Colin Young; Tom Wardlaw & Afshin Alijani)
    Dundee (1): James Anderson.

This meant the City of Dundee had 17 players out of a field of 32 players in the Dundee Allegro! That is a decent turnout, but still could have been better given it’s in Dundee!

As usual the venue had plenty room between boards which makes a big difference and a relaxing game of chess! There was a slight hic-up around stating times, but all resolved and no issues caused!

All matches were “live” streamed on the Chess Scotland website! Links “HERE.

OPEN
Congratulations to David Findlay & Alastair Dawson (both Dundee) on finishing in joint 2nd place on 3½ points (3 way tie), just behind Number one seed and winner, FM Alan Tate (4½)!

INTERMEDIATE U1600
Congratulations to Keith Rose (Castlehill) on finishing joint 1st place (3-way tie) on 4½ points! Way to go Keith, just turning back the hands of time and proving you still have what it takes! Well done!

Also well done Ray Noble who took the grading prize (u1310) in the intermediate on 2½ points! Did not see that one coming!

A special mention to TAFCA club St Andrews, and their players (5 in total) with Hunter Webb getting the grading prize (u1700) in the open on 3½ points. In the intermediate, Josh Cargill and Kevin Lee finished equal 1st with Keith Rose on 4½ points. Well played everyone!

Thank you to the Scottish Chess Tour and their organisers and arbiters for making this a very successful day in Dundee! It’s good to see more events within the Dundee City boundaries!

Of course it would not work, but for the players that supported this event, especially from the two main chess clubs in the City of Dundee, thank you all!

The next Dundee Allegro is on Sunday 4th June 23 again in the Invercarse Hotel.

See you all again there!
