Nihal Sarin is the Winner of Tata Steel Chess India Rapid 2022

The 4th edition of the Tata Steel Chess India Rapid & Blitz, India’s biggest chess tournament, kicked off on Monday with the Rapid tournament in Kolkata. The event featured a very strong line-up with an interesting mixture of world-class grandmasters and Indian young chess stars.

Indian prodigy Nihal Sarin clinched gold with a round to spare as he scored impressive 6.5/8 points. Sarin lost the last-round game to his compatriot Arjun Erigaisi, but kept the sole first place on the top of the rankings.

Arjun Erigaisi scored 6 points for a clear second place as a group of five players trailed by 1.5 points: Vidit Santosh Gujrathi, Hikaru Nakamura, Gukesh D, Shakhriyar Mamedyarov and Nodirbek Abdusattorov. The Tata Steel Chess India 2022 continues tomorrow with the Blitz tournament. Games will be on air from 16:00 (local time). Schedule of all rounds
