JUNIOR 4NCL (Nations Chess League) Round 4 report!
JUNIOR 4NCL (Nations Chess League)
Thurs 20th Oct 22 – 6:00pm
Season 6 – Round 4
Division Three – Group B
A joint venture between Castlehill Chess Club Dundee and Dundee Chess Club.
RESULT
Warwickshire Bears E (1121) 2½ – 5½ (466) Dundee City Juniors
With Rishi Vijayakumar away to India, it was left to the rest of the team to play and boy did they step up to the plate in his absence!
What a result against a far stronger team on paper! It would have been a tough match with Rishi playing, but without him this result has to be a big shock against the strong Warwickshire Bears E! To be honest our team grade is far to low because newbie Scott Xu is proving to be a much better player than his grade suggests. Playing in only his second match he is unbeaten on 4 out of 4! Remarkable performance by Scott.
He was backed up by his new team mates with Josh Dickson on board one getting a very good unexpected draw against a very strong player grading wise to Josh!
Haoqi Liu on board two also produced the goods with a win and loss. Haoqi has to be the most unpredictable junior player I have ever seen, talk about hot and cold!
The star performer for the team on the night has to go to our board four player, Noah Dickson (378), who won 2 nil against a 1060! Out of this world performance from young Noah which included the cheeky queen winning trap in the Petroff! Oh what a night for Noah! 5 stars young man!
Dundee City Juniors sit in 4th place 4 points behind the leaders, but only two points behind the 2 teams in 2nd & 3rd place, with 3 rounds left. If Rishi and Scott play in all 3, backed up by the rest of the team, Dundee City Juniors might still have a chance of promotion!
Next round is on Thurs 3rd Nov 22, 6pm.
