CASTLEHIL QUICK-PLAY GRAND PRIX

Once again a good turnout, not as much as the last time with a few top players missing, but that gives other players a change to move up the table!
Rishi Vijayakumar J10 was there and once again proved too strong for the rest of the players, bar one! Yes Rishi finished top again and also leads the overall table, but he did lose a game to Saranraj Gururaj!
Max Whisson J15 was on fire as he finished just a ½ point behind Rishi in runners-up place, which also moved him up to 3rd place in the overall table. Fantastic performance by Max! Saranraj finished third and moved to 5th place in the overall table.
Vladislav Drabych J17 finished 4th on the night and is in 2nd place in the overall table, 6½ points behind the leader Rishi!

In all we had six juniors playing with 3 juniors in the top 3 places in the overall standings! Castlehill also welcomed a new possible member to the club, Steve Burns who was thrown in at the deep end by taking part in this 3 minutes + 2 seconds scramble! He did well for his first event finishing on 3 points. Hopefully he enjoyed himself and will be back!

On another matter!
Also we had a couple of new junior players down along with Steve Burns, one a new junior (Zac), the other (Luaidh) having been at the club before the pandemic in 2019. Things are looking better for the club after a slow start back after the pandemic. It’s hard work, but worth it as we see Castlehill Chess Club getting back to a thriving OTB chess club again!
